I’m the artist and storyteller behind Hamletta Studios, a space born from my own journey of losing and rediscovering my creative spark. For years, I balanced a busy career and family life while quietly missing the part of me that used to come alive through art. When I finally picked up my sketchbook again, it wasn’t about creating something perfect. It was about remembering who I was.
That experience changed everything. It taught me that creativity isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline — a way back to ourselves when life gets too loud. Now, through whimsical characters and art journaling, I help other women reconnect with their imagination and joy, one small creative moment at a time.

Hamletta Studios was born from a simple desire to slow down, play, and create for the joy of it. In a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming, we believe play and creativity are the way back to ourselves.
Through playful art, mindful stationery, and soulful rituals, I invite women to rediscover their light and reconnect with what truly matters. Each doodle, sticker, and journaling prompt is a playful nudge to pause, breathe, and find magic in the everyday.

Hey, I'm Janice.
As a mom of two young children, I know what it feels like to lose yourself in the chaos of everyday life. Art became my escape, a way to breathe, to play, and to remember who I am.
What began as a personal journey soon grew into Hamletta Studios, a creative space that helps women reconnect with their authentic selves and discover their purpose through playful art journaling and heartfelt rituals, so they can live with more joy, confidence, and clarity.
I didn’t set out to start something big. I just needed a way to feel like me again. What began as stolen moments with a paintbrush during nap times slowly turned into a creative ritual that helped me reconnect with my joy and purpose.
A Few Things About Me✨
I believe creativity is how we sneak back home to ourselves. I believe in slow mornings, messy sketchbooks, and tea that goes cold because I got lost in a doodle. I believe art should make you feel something, not prove something.
I’m all for curiosity, kindness, and finding magic in the small things. I’m over hustle culture, comparison traps, and the myth that creativity has to be productive to matter.
Around here, we celebrate paint-splattered pages, imperfect ideas, and the joy of making just because it feels good. If that sounds like your kind of world, you’ll fit right in.
The Story Behind the Studio
I've always been unapologetically me.
For as long as I can remember, I felt a little odd and different — but I was headstrong and firm in my beliefs and what I wanted.
Even when it felt weird. Even when it felt lonely. Even when the world seemed to be asking me to shrink, conform, or play it safe.
For a long time, I thought there was something wrong with being me. Why can't I just be normal? Why is it so hard to fit in?
I felt isolated, different, like I didn't quite fit into the boxes everyone else seemed comfortable in.
But now I understand: that feeling wasn't a flaw. It was a compass pointing me toward my authentic self. And honestly? I like who I am.
Where It All Began
I’ve been drawing characters and telling stories since I was a kid growing up in San Francisco. My childhood stuffies and doodles became my first creative team, and they never really left. They grew up with me and became the whimsical cast of Hamletta Studios, each one a reminder that the things you loved as a child are still part of who you are.
Hamletta Studios was born from choosing joy, creativity, and play over perfection and practicality. I chose pigs, my lifelong love, instead of the “mainstream” animals people expected. It was my joyful rebellion, a way to remember who I was when no one was watching.
Art was always my first love, but somewhere along the way, I convinced myself it wasn’t “practical enough.” So I studied something sensible, earned a master’s degree, and built a career in public service.
But that creative spark never really went away.
When Life Got Loud
While working full-time, I started designing stickers under the name Hamletta Studios. It was my way of keeping that creative spark alive. But when I became pregnant, life shifted. Between work, motherhood, and everything in between, the noise of daily life grew louder until it drowned out my art completely. I told myself it was just a pause, but that pause became a silence that lasted nearly seven years. Every time I passed my art supplies or sketchbook, a small part of me ached, wondering if I’d ever find my way back.
Finding My Way Back to Art
When I finally picked up my art again, it wasn’t about creating something perfect or sellable. It was about giving myself permission to play, to make a mess, to create without pressure. After years of silence, that first brushstroke felt like coming home. It was the beginning of everything. Through art journaling, I found a way to reconnect with my creativity and, in the process, rediscover who I truly am.
Why I Do What I Do
Now, as a mom of two, I’ve left my government job to be with my kids and run a playful art studio that celebrates self-expression and intentional living. Hamletta Studios came roaring back, not as a side project, but as a full-blown mission to help other women find their way back to themselves too.
And the ripple effect is real. My kids see a mom who values creativity and joy. They see a mom who prioritizes herself and her happiness. My customers feel permission to play and express themselves. Other women see that it’s possible to choose themselves too.
Change doesn’t come from grand gestures, it grows from everyday acts of authenticity. Hamletta Studios grew out of my own rediscovery: creativity as medicine, intention as a daily choice, and living as my unfiltered self.
Because when you choose authenticity, again and again in the small moments, your life expands. Your joy becomes permission for others. And the world around you shifts in ways that matter.

The Art and Heart Playbook
The Art and Heart Playbook was born from this journey of rediscovery.
After years of exploring what it means to live authentically while balancing motherhood, creativity, and purpose, I realized I needed a roadmap. Not a rigid plan, but a gentle guide that honored the messy, beautiful process of coming home to yourself.
So I created one.
The Playbook is something I created for myself first. I needed a guide through the Play, Create, Grow framework—something to help me reconnect with my authentic self, uncover my purpose, and create a life that feels unapologetically mine.
So I filled it with the creative exercises, journaling prompts, rituals, and resources that worked for me. Everything I wish I'd had when I was searching for my spark again.
It helped me find my way home. And now, I'm sharing it with you so it can help you find yours too.
A Little About Me
Born in Hong Kong and raised in San Francisco, Janice Lau Perez grew up with a notebook in hand, filling its pages with stories and characters of her own creation. Her favorite was Kimberly, a rag doll who became her first muse — complete with a cast of friends, comic adventures, and a spot on her bed reserved just for them. Even then, storytelling and world-building were her favorite forms of play.
Though art was her first love, limiting beliefs led her down a more “practical” path. She studied landscape architecture and later earned a master’s in urban and regional planning, building a career in parks planning and data analysis. But creativity always found its way back to her. While working full time, she began designing and selling stickers under the name Hamletta Studios — a joyful outlet that reawakened the part of her that loved to draw, imagine, and create.
After becoming a mother of two, she decided to step away from her government job to homeschool her children and focus on her art. Hamletta Studios returned during that season of rediscovery — not as a side project, but as a reflection of her growth as an artist, mother, and human being.
Now based in Sacramento, California, she creates “playful art with sassy heart,” inviting others to slow down, reconnect with their inner child, and playfully live their best life. Her work encourages women to break free from hustle culture and embrace joy, creativity, and authenticity — the foundation of a life that feels unapologetically yours.
When she’s not painting or journaling, you can find her exploring local parks with her kids, experimenting with new tech tools, or dreaming up fresh ideas for Hamletta Studios. She believes in the magic of daily play, the healing power of nature and that life’s best moments often start with an invitation to play, a matcha latte, and maybe a few too many lime-flavored chips.
