Show Notes & Summary: Why Play is a Sacred Act
In this debut episode, I share the personal journey of how I rediscovered my own creative spark, which ultimately led to the birth of Hamletta Studios, and how that same simple, joyful act of "playing" is the most powerful thing you can do for yourself today.
The Myth of Productivity vs. The Truth of Play
Somewhere along the way, society convinced us that play is childish or a waste of time. We get caught up in a "productivity culture" that whispers: if it doesn't make money or check a box, it's not worth doing.
We talked about why this is simply noise, and why we must reject it.
The truth? Play is sacred. Joy is your birthright. You don’t need to "earn" the right to play. You were born knowing how!
Hamletta Studios' Origin Story: Creating Just for Joy
I share how, during a season of life where my full-time job felt creatively draining, I started a simple evening habit: drawing just for fun. Little pigs, quirky characters, and girls with oversized heads.
This simple, no-pressure habit revealed a profound truth: Creativity doesn’t need to be productive to be meaningful. Sometimes, the most healing thing you can do is create without reason, no pressure, and no agenda.
Play is How We Reconnect
Denying ourselves the time to play is denying our own inner wisdom. Play is the most direct way to reconnect with the truest parts of ourselves—our inner child—the part that knows what we really want in life.
If you are feeling disconnected or blocked, it's not a lack of talent or time; it's a lack of permission to simply play again.
Your Invitation This Week: The 10-Minute Playdate
Ready to bring that spark back? You don't need a huge block of time or a fancy studio.
Your Play Prompt: Set aside just 10 minutes for an "art playdate" with yourself.
Your Materials: Grab paper, stickers, colored pencils, old magazines, glue, whatever feels fun and accessible.
The Only Rule: Create something with NO GOAL. Let it be messy, fun, and free.
Journal Prompt for Deeper Reflection
Want to go a little deeper? Grab your journal and try this prompt:
What did play look like for you as a child? How can you bring a little of that back into your life today?
Remember: Play isn’t something we grow out of. It’s something we need to grow back into. It’s always on the menu. We just have to choose it.
Until next time, pick up that pen, brush, or sticker sheet, and create what feels true to you.
