Creative self-care is a journey with ups and downs, not a solved problem
It Wasn't Time. It Was Energy.
I've been telling myself for a while that I don't have time to be creative. Then I looked a little closer and realized that wasn't true.
My creative blocks weren't about a lack of time. They were about not respecting my energy.
My best energy for making things is early in the morning. By evening I'm tired, and I end up scrolling on my phone. It's predictable, and it takes whatever I have left. So now I tell myself:
"If there are creative things that I want to do, I better get them done early in the morning when I still have that energy."
Creative self-care means boundaries
Doom scrolling and soaking up everyone else's energy drains my own. Creative self-care for me is learning to trust myself to choose what expands me, like drawing or journaling, over what depletes me, like social media or celebrity gossip.
"Choosing to go on my phone and scrolling, while predictable, does not expand me in any way, does not make me more creative, does not get me closer to me, my authentic self."
Homemade Halloween costumes fill me up
One thing that always lights me up is making Halloween costumes for my kids. Each year I've learned something new, moving from cardboard and duct tape to fabric and sewing. They take effort, but the joy, the pride and the memories are worth it.

In the latest episode I talk about all of this: the creative block, the morning-versus-evening energy shift, and the costumes. It's honest and a little messy, and I'm still figuring it out
If you've been telling yourself you don't have time, maybe try asking when your energy is highest instead. ๐
