Today is the Winter Solstice—the shortest day and the longest night of the year. In many traditions, the solstice is a sacred pause, a moment when the Earth holds its breath before the light begins its slow return.
I want to sit with you in that pause for a moment. The world feels incredibly noisy right now. Between the holiday hustle and the weight of everything else, it’s easy to feel like our inner light is being dimmed by the demands of everyone around us.
The 25-Minute Reality Check
Earlier today, I spent 25 minutes in line just to buy three rolls of wrapping paper. As I stood there, watching the rush and the last-minute panic, I felt that familiar pressure. As women, mothers, and caretakers, we often feel the "magic" of the holidays rests entirely on our shoulders. We want to create beautiful memories, but we forget that we are a part of nature, too. Nature doesn't bloom all year. It takes time to rest in the dark before it turns on the light. The Solstice is a reminder that you, too, are allowed to choose rest over busyness.
Protecting Your Inner World
If spending time with others or checking off that endless to-do list isn't filling your cup, it is okay to step back. Your needs are valid. You are not a machine that produces holiday magic; you are a person who deserves to be cared for.
To do this, we have to become intentional about what we let in. I want to share a practice that has changed the way I navigate stressful spaces: The Bubble Visualization.
Imagine yourself standing in a clear, protective bubble. When the world gets loud, or when someone says something hurtful, visualize their words or that chaotic energy literally bouncing off the surface of your bubble. They don't have to reach your heart. You are safe inside.
📔 A Solstice Journal Invitation
I want you to take a moment today (even just five minutes) to sit with this visualization and ask yourself this specific question:
"If I were to imagine a protective bubble around my energy today, what three things am I intentionally keeping outside of it to protect my peace?"
Tending to Your Spark
Imagine a dark room where a single lit match can illuminate the entire space. You don’t need a massive change to find peace; you just need to protect that one small spark.
Here is how you can reset today:
Take a Micro-Break: Five minutes of breathing where your exhale is longer than your inhale (try 4 counts in, 6 counts out) resets your nervous system instantly.
Carry a Reminder: I’ve created 4 Holiday Self-Care Affirmation Cards to help you stay grounded. One of them says, "I am the keeper of my own peace." Print them out or save them to your phone as your "pocket permission slips."

As the sun sets on this solstice, remember: Darkness is just where the light begins. Take care of your inner world tonight. Put yourself at the top of the list. When you are replenished, you change the energy of everyone around you.
Happy Winter Solstice. Hold onto the good.
